Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. Ruth Roman is the eldest child of Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. After her father died as a carnival barker, when Ruth was just an infant and she was forced to support the family working both as a cook and server. Ruth went to school in Boston's tenement region, which was the most deplorable. She quit school in just two years, to go into acting. There were many hurdles to overcome on her path to success. When she was in New York she was hired to do a photo shoot in a crime magazine however, no theatre job opportunities came up. The following job she got was a "hat check" woman at a nightclub until she decided to quit and relocated to Boston. It was there that she earned a living working as an usherette during the during the day and then at night performing with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first role as an actor. She also completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she studied drama.
